Ermelo is on the borders of Swaziland 205 kilometres from Johannesburg and would have been an area involved in the second Anglo-Boer war of 1899 1902 .
A characteristic of these chairs , often made by turners and joiners who doubled up as wagon makers and house writes , is the protrusion of the front leg posts slightly above the seat rails which was a device to keep loose seat cushions used at the time from slipping .
