A George II cut glass six light chandelier ( England c. 1760 )

Signed/Inscribed/Dated
circa 1760
Dimensions
  40.00inch high (  101.60 cm high)
Diameter:
37.00inch ( 93.98 cm in diameter)
Description / Expertise
The baluster stem and bottom finial cut with broad flat flutes and faceting, the centre balls and bowl receiver cut with flat geometric design of cross cut lozenges and vesica. From the simple brass plate at the receiver emanate six ‘S’ shape facet cut glass candle-arms with plain candle sockets supporting six scalloped and flat cut star slip-over pans.

Unusually, the large centre ball is two pieces with copper rebated
rims showing faint traces of silvering.

The maker was possibly Colebron Hancock or more probably
Maydwell & Windle who supplied three similar chandeliers to
the ballroom of the Governor’s Palace, Williamsburg in 1760.
(In 1980 we were pleased to supply the three chandeliers that
are currently in the ballroom).
